Hi there, we like to use the Sparkplug Standard for our pumps ([www.wilo.com](http://www.wilo.com)) to communicate with a cloud platform.

We are wondering about the usage of templates. Are they defined with a NBIRTH telegram and then create as instance in a DBIRTH telegram? What´s the difference instead of directly using DBIRTH telegrams to populate the metrics with it´s properties and sending it via DDATA? The possiblity to use parameters in the payload?

Thanks a lot for some hints.

Best, Jens

I’d recommend taking a look at this example: [tahu/SparkplugExample.java at master · eclipse/tahu · GitHub](https://github.com/eclipse/tahu/blob/master/sparkplug_b/stand_alone_examples/java_udt/src/main/java/org/eclipse/tahu/SparkplugExample.java)

I should also note that the Sparkplug Working Group may be a good resource for you: [https://sparkplug.eclipse.org/](https://sparkplug.eclipse.org/)

Specifically the Slack channels there might be of use.
